Our
Mission: The members of the family of St. James celebrate a Lutheran witness
to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We worship and serve in response to God's love. |
Upcoming Events:
- VOLUNTEER NEEDED... Ushers are needed for both services in January and February, and lectors for the early services on February 5 & 19. Also, there are openings for altar flowers on January 29, February 5 & 19, as well as a donor for the February Celebration Sunday cake. Please see the sign up sheets at the information desk. The new 2012 flower chart is now available.
- Temporary Change In The Sunday School Schedule:
For the month of January, Sunday school classes for youth (ages 3 through 6th grade) will be held during the 10:45 worship service, instead of at 9:15 on Sunday mornings. Following the children’s sermon, the children will gather in the choir room for a lesson.
- Souper Bowl Of Caring . . .
On Sunday, February 5, we will once again join with many churches across the nation in participating in the Souper Bowl of Caring. As the teams compete in football’s “Super Bowl”, church members will be called upon to remember that in this culture of excesses, there are still many neighbors in need. Soup kettles will be available here at St. James so that you can make an offering to the local Ligonier Valley Association of Churches Food Pantry. Please come prepared to make a generous gift!
- The Annual Congregational Meeting . . . Will be held on Sunday, February 12 AND we will have a single, combined worship service, held at 10:00 am. After the meeting will be a potluck luncheon. Please plan on joining us.
- Cookbooks Are Here!
The long-awaited St. James cookbooks were delivered to the church on December 2, and are now available for purchase. They are filled with delicious recipes from members and friends of the congregation, and might just be the answer to some of “stuck” places on your Christmas gift list. The cost is $10.00 each, with all profit from the sales going help reduce the remaining balance in the “Extra Strength Pane Relief” window restoration fund. Copies will be available following Sunday services during the coming weeks in the hallway near the water fountain.
- Pork Chop Dinner . . .
The next pork chop dinner will be held on Thursday, January 26, at 4:30 pm. If you are willing to help, the sign up sheets are on the information desk at the back of the church.
- The Adult Sunday School Class . . .
Began Sunday, January 8, the adult Sunday school class will begin a study of the Gospel according to Luke. All are welcome and encouraged to meet in the parlor at 9:15 am.
- Blanket Drive . . .
In order to help our friends and neighbors in the community stay a little warmer thiswinter, Smith Oil hold is again holding an annual blanket drive. They are collecting new and gently used blankets (no holes or frays) for distribution. A basket for donations is in the coat-rack area of the church. Blankets will be collected until the end of March. Be sure to find it in your warm heart to help with this wonderful cause!
